Last year about this time, I was making preparations for my brother-in-law’s memorial service. I happened to be wearing this Dyke University T-shirt. It’s one of not-enough Dyke-themed T-shirts in my wardrobe, though certainly I had intended to change into something more dapper later.

But I’m not as proper as I used to be, I guess. Having run out of time, I opted to stay with friends and family rather than excuse myself to change. Much to my amusement, I guy I didn’t know asked me, “Did I go there?” Turns out, he wasn’t joking.
Me: “Go where? Oh…”
Him: “Because I looked it up, since I’d never heard of it.”
Me: “It’s a real place?”

Actually, it’s Dyke College. Or, was Dyke College. A business school. For women. Wikipedia: “n 1896, Frank L. Dyke, a former Spencerian professor, founded Dyke School of Commerce, dedicated to preparing young women for business careers…. From 1958 to 1994, the school was known as Dyke College.” How cool is that?

I’m still on the lookout for the original crest.
